Shifting patterns: Pacific barkcloth clothing. 5 February – 16 August 2015 at the British Museum.

These finely crafted dresses and headdresses were created by women. The use of bark (and particularly the soft inner layer of tree bark) for clothing, creation of bowls, bags, cradles, carriers, nets for fishing, mats and bedding demonstrates women’s skill in harvesting and preparing natural resources for a range of purposes, and shows exceptional design and artistry.
